On this, the 23rd anniversary of The Truman Show, how could I not reflect?
Growing up with a film collector older brother, being immersed in all genre of film throughout my life, taking classes with brilliant film professors who taught me to analyze a film the same way one does a book, studying film literacy, designing lessons that let struggling readers know they were welcome in the world of stories, theme, and character development, this is the one that created the most change.
What a poignant parallel. Leaving a world I had known for so long, to explore one that I didn’t know.
Starting over. Was it easy? Hell, no. Was it necessary? Hell, yes.
Hey Truman. We both decided to explore new worlds and start over. It wasn’t easy, but we found the same thing: success.
We did it together.
